1990 Foxbody LS swap AJE K-Member install and a little engine bay paint.

So up next on the LS foxbody swap is the AJE K-Member and repainting the engine bay. The paint was flaking bad, so I went a head and pulled the fenders and front bumper cover to sand and paint it all.

DIY roof replacement on a 1990 Mustang Foxbody Coupe

We finally got  started on replacing the roof on our Mustang. The original plan was to drill all the spot welds and just replace the skin, but after looking closer we decided to cut the post. This wasn't really that bad of a job for never having done anything like this before. Make sure you measure really well and just take you time cutting. You will save a bunch of time by make really precise cuts, we eared on the side of caution when we made ousr so it took quit a bit of grinding to get everything fitting the way we wanted.

We used a sawzall, MIG welder, lots of grinding, and a little body filler. Our car already had a roll bar, but if it didn't I would have welded some bracing before we cut the roof off. You can follow along below by looking through all of the pictures. Feel free to ask any questions in the comment section.

Our dented and creased roof

The main reason for cutting the post were the supports were all mangled from someone trying to pry out the dents.

We measured the openings for both the front and back and took pics so we could remember.

We used 2" painters tape to mark where to cut. We cut at the bottom of the tape on the donor roof.

We cut about a 1/4 of an inch above the bottom of the tape on the Mustang. That way we had some material to grind to get the measurements right.

Here's where you worry if your measurements were right. Lol

Here's the donor Mustangs roof just needing some final grinding. The hard part will be sanding and painting  it.

The post with some filler to smooth it out.

The rear quarter on the Mustang with some filler waiting to be sanded.

Here is the rear quarter after the first pass of sanding. We will work on it until it is smooth and the seam is unnoticeable.

Here we have completed all the sanding and it is ready for primer.

Roof is primed and ready for some more sanding. The plan now is just to paint the jams so we can get the glass back in it and later we will maybe pain the whole Mustang.

The Mustang has the new roof on and trimmed. We also did a little work on the cowl.

Here is another picture of the Mustang with the roof trimmed and ready for glass tomorrow.

AJE K-member ordered

After taking a few weeks to game plan we are finally ordering parts. We are going with an AJE K-member and are going to use the stock arms for now. That should shave about 34 pounds off of the front end and give us more room for turbo stuff. We will post up pics of the install in a few weeks.

1990 Foxbody LS turbo swap

Our first project will be this. We are still very early in the planning phases, but it is looking like a 4.8, th400, and 1 or 2 turbos.

We picked up the roller with no interior, hood, front struts or springs, and a dented up roof from a faulty hood pin. It will be a lot of work be we will get it.
